Perspective testing my new iPhone 11 Pro Max in the Pacific Northwest, I was standing in one place. Oh, the capabilities of the new iPhone with three cameras!
“The new Wide sensor has 100 percent Focus Pixels for up to three times faster autofocus in low light.” Apple
“[Ultra wide] Capturing four times more scene, it’s great for landscapes, travel, groups, large interiors, and action shot.” Apple
Oh, and did I say they are 12MP cameras?

That’s certainly what happened this spring at our home in Orange County, California. We bought a milkweed plant, stuck it in the ground, watered it well and it bloomed. It became the host of many Monarch butterfly eggs and caterpillars. It was eaten voraciously and helped to produce several transformations from caterpillars into a chrysalis into Monarch butterflies.
In the photo above you can see the empty chrysalis next to the newly hatched butterfly. The hatchling is drying its wings so it can fly away. Until the wings are dry, it is most vulnerable to predators. It takes about one hour to complete this stage.
Monarch butterflies migrate from the cold climates of Canada and the northern USA beginning in September and arrive at their destination by Thanksgiving. The butterflies in the Eastern United States migrate to Mexico. Click here to see the overwintering sites in Mexico. Those west of the Rockies migrate to the California coast. AMA stands for “Ask-Me-Anything”. AMA is a “crowdsourced interview” where the community asks a host questions.
It runs for 7 days, so get your questions in early. In fact, you can ask your questions right now. The answers won’t be published until the #PhotographyAMA goes live at noon on Sunday, July 22, but it will give me a headstart on answering your photography questions.
What it is you want to say with your photographs, and how do you actually get your photographs to do that?
What motivates you to continue taking pictures?
What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
Which photographers influenced you, and how did they influence your thinking, photographing, and career path?
How do you educate yourself to take better pictures?
What, in your opinion, is most important to consider while shooting portrait pictures?
Among the gadgets that you own, is there something that you wish you hadn’t bought? Why?
In your free time, what kind of pictures do you like to shoot and which ones do you avoid?
From your point of view, what makes a good picture?
Since the photography techniques and equipment change quickly, it is important to stay up-to-date. What do you do to always keep up with the times?
What do you think is the difference between a professional photographer and any other hobby photographer?
