On a recent Sunday Rich Malone retired after 36 years of honorable service from the U.S. Navy. He was joined by close friends and family aboard the USS Iowa, docked in San Pedro Harbor with views of the Vincent Thomas Bridge. The location was a fitting place for such a special event and the weather was spectacular with a breathtaking sunset.
Rich celebrated his navy retirement event with his wife, Paula, and their son, Connor. We captured a memorable family portrait overlooking the harbor.
Of course, the cake was expertly decorated and was “to die for” delicious!
Just a little bit about the event venue – In 2011 Iowa was donated to the Los Angeles-based non-profit Pacific Battleship Center and was permanently moved to Berth 87 at the Port of Los Angeles in the summer of 2012, where she was opened to the public to serve as a museum and memorial to battleships. They are open to the public and offer guided tours of the ship.
In the last several months I’ve heard the word “loyalty” used in discussions with my returning clients. The Malone’s have been loyal clients for many years and we are all proud to tell our story. I photographed Rich and Paula’s engagement session (yes, this was many years ago when I was building my wedding photography business), I photographed their wedding, then created Paula’s pregnancy portraits, and now another milestone in their lives, Rich’s Navy retirement.
